Community Outreach
My skills as a multimedia producer have given me the opportunity to reach out to non-profit organizations and help spread awareness of their cause. From February to April 2011, I worked with Friends of Boone County Family Resources. This non-profit organization helps fund different projects for a local agency in Columbia, Mo called Boone County Family Resources. This agency works to provide services to people with developmental disabilities. The main goal of the agency is to help their clients become as independent as possible. I served on a committee that put together an event called Twestival, which is a nationwide, single day event that brings together social communities at an event that benefits a great cause. My peers and I brought the event to Columbia on a local level to benefit Friends of Boone County Resources.

Here's an example of my promotional efforts on facebook. The Twestival team and I not only created a facebook group page for the event, but also a facebook event page. This allowed people to not only RSVP, but to also see who else is invited. The event page made it easier to plan the event, because we could gauge the number of people who were going to be there. Also, it allowed me to promote our blog by linking the blog to the facebook site and showcasing different posts. People enjoyed this type of promotion, because they could "like" the post or comment on a post.

Twestival Coverage
Here's a video of the Twestival event. You can see people enjoying drinks, pizza and of course, betting on auction items. Overall, we raised $2,896 with the help of the community. Guests included Les Wagner, the Executive Director of Boone County Family Resources and Robyn Steinberg, who serves as Associate Director. The atmosphere of the event was fun, friendly and sophisticated. It was a great way to benefit a local cause, and I think it will be an annual event for years to come.
